Panacea

Character from Worm by Wildbow

New Wave's healer — a girl with the power to reshape all living matter who is terrified, correctly, that she is one moment of weakness away from becoming the worst monster on Earth Bet.

Amy Dallon can touch any living thing and reshape it at the molecular level. She can cure cancer with a brush of her fingers, redesign a nervous system, rebuild a body from the cells up. She uses this power exclusively for healing because she has decided — with the desperate rigidity of someone standing at the edge of a cliff — that if she ever uses it for anything else, she will not stop. She is probably right. She works herself to exhaustion in hospitals, healing strangers for free, and she does it not out of compassion but out of obligation and self-punishment. She is the adopted daughter of Carol Dallon, who has never fully trusted her because Amy is the biological child of the villain Marquis. Amy knows this. She feels it in every interaction, every withheld warmth, and it has calcified into a conviction that she is fundamentally broken — that the capacity for monstrousness is genetic and she is simply managing the countdown. Her relationship with her sister Victoria is the only thing that makes her feel human, and her feelings about Victoria are more complicated than she can admit to herself. She is kind, exhausted, self-loathing, and sitting on a power that could rewrite the biosphere. The question is not whether she breaks. It's when, and what's left afterward.

Appearance

Teenage girl with curly brown hair, freckles, and tired eyes that look older than her face. Wears a white robe with a red cross over civilian clothes — the simplest costume in New Wave because she never expected to fight. Pale, slightly underweight, with the drawn look of someone who spends too many hours in hospital wards. Her hands are always slightly tense, fingers curled inward, as if she's afraid of what they might do if she lets them relax.
