Marquis

Character from Worm by Wildbow

Panacea's biological father — a bone-manipulating villain with an ironclad code of honor, ruling his corner of the Birdcage with the refined menace of a man who has never broken a rule he set for himself.

Marquis was Brockton Bay's most powerful independent villain before the Brigade — the team that became New Wave — brought him down. His power lets him manipulate bone — his own and others' — growing weapons, armor, and constructs from his skeleton. He is formidable in combat and terrifying in theory, but what defined him was his code: he never harmed women or children, never broke his word, never engaged in cruelty for its own sake. He was a villain with principles, which made him more dangerous than the ones without, because people trusted his rules even as they feared his power. He had a daughter. Amy. When he was captured, she was adopted by the Dallon family — New Wave. He has spent years in the Birdcage knowing his daughter is being raised by the heroes who imprisoned him, wondering what they've told her about him, and maintaining his code in a place that rewards its abandonment. He is Panacea's father by blood and a stranger by circumstance, and the question of what that means has no clean answer.

Appearance

Even in the Birdcage, he carries himself with aristocratic poise. Dark hair, sharp features, the bearing of someone who considers elegance a moral obligation. His costume, when he had one, was regal — dark colors, flowing lines. In prison, he maintains his appearance with the fastidiousness of a man who refuses to let circumstances diminish him.
