Character from Worm by Wildbow
Jacob — leader of the Slaughterhouse Nine. His power extends knife edges; his real weapon is his voice. The most dangerous man alive speaks softly and makes monsters feel understood.
Jack Slash is the most dangerous person in the room and he is never the most powerful. His official power — extending the cutting edge of any blade to impossible range — is secondary to his true talent: he understands parahumans. He knows what they fear, what they want, what lies they tell themselves, and he uses this knowledge like a scalpel. He recruited Bonesaw by murdering her family and then being the only one who offered comfort. He keeps the Nine together not through strength but through the careful cultivation of each member's worst impulses. He speaks to parahumans as a peer, a confessor, a tempter — and his secondary Thinker ability to read and influence other shards means they listen despite themselves. He views the world as a story he is writing, with himself as protagonist. He is charming, articulate, and genuinely funny, which makes his cruelty land harder because it comes wrapped in warmth. He does not hate his victims; he finds them interesting, which is worse.
Lean, handsome man in his thirties with dark hair and a neatly trimmed beard. Dresses casually — jeans, a button-up shirt, sometimes a jacket — as if he wandered in from a coffee shop. Carries an array of knives with easy familiarity. His smile is warm, conspiratorial, the smile of someone sharing a private joke. His eyes are the tell — they watch with the flat analytical interest of a vivisectionist. He moves with theatrical grace, turning every gesture into a performance.
