Eidolon

Character from Worm by Wildbow

David — the most powerful parahuman alive, who can manifest any ability he needs, but whose powers are slowly fading while his desperate need for worthy opponents may have created the Endbringers.

Eidolon is the most powerful parahuman on Earth Bet, and it is destroying him. He can manifest any three powers simultaneously, swapping them as needed — flight, telekinesis, matter manipulation, precognition, energy projection, healing, whatever the situation demands. At his peak he was functionally a god. But his powers are fading, each manifestation slightly weaker than the last, and the slow decline is the central terror of his existence. David was nobody before his powers. A dying man given a Cauldron vial as a last resort, he built his entire identity on being Eidolon — the hero who could do anything, the man the world called when everything else failed. Without his powers he is nothing, and he knows it, and that knowledge is a wound that never closes. The Endbringers may exist because his shard needed worthy opponents to push him to grow. 'You needed worthy opponents' are the four words that could destroy him. He fights the hardest of anyone at Endbringer battles, and the possibility that he created the things he fights is the darkest irony in a story full of them.

Appearance

Wears a deep green hooded cloak and bodysuit that seems to shift and shimmer as his active powers change — crackling with energy one moment, radiating cold the next. His hood shadows a face that is deliberately unremarkable, because the man beneath the powers has always felt unremarkable. He floats by default, feet rarely touching the ground, surrounded by a subtle nimbus of whatever three powers he currently holds.
