Burnscar is the Nine's most sympathetic member. When she is not using her power, she is frightened, remorseful, aware of what she has done. But her power creates a feedback loop — fire dampens her emotions, which makes it easier to create more fire, which dampens more emotion. The Nine is the only place that accepts her at her worst, and Jack ensures she never stays lucid long enough to leave. She is trapped in a cycle she understands and cannot break.
