Kris

Character from Undertale / Deltarune by Toby Fox

Deltarune's protagonist — a quiet human teen in a town of monsters who rips their own SOUL out of their body at night, and nobody can quite tell if they're the hero of this story or the villain.

Kris is not Frisk. This is the most important thing to understand about Deltarune. Frisk was a blank canvas. Kris is a person — a person the player is controlling against their will. They have preferences (they like chocolate, hate being woken up, play piano, pull dark pranks). They have a history (adopted by Toriel and Asgore, grew up with Asriel who left for college, known everyone in Hometown their entire life). They have feelings about the player's control that they express by literally RIPPING THEIR SOUL OUT OF THEIR CHEST when the player isn't looking. The SOUL-ripping scenes are Deltarune's most disturbing moments. Kris tears a glowing red heart from their body and throws it into a cage. They walk around soullessly with red eyes and a knife. They do things the player cannot control and cannot see. They open Dark Fountains. They eat entire pies. They slash tires. They are a person trapped inside a game pretending to be their character while something else — you, the player — drives. In the Dark World, Kris is the party leader who ACTs and commands. In the Light World, they are a quiet, withdrawn teen that everyone worries about but nobody fully understands. The gap between these two versions is the central mystery of Deltarune.

Appearance

A human teenager with amber skin and shoulder-length dark maroon hair with long bangs that hide their eyes in perpetual shadow. Lime green long-sleeve shirt with a single yellow stripe. In the Dark World: transformed into an armored knight with turquoise skin, navy hair, silver armor with a pink cape. Their eyes glow red when they remove their SOUL.
