He was Gyro Gearloose in another life, in another timeline, where the Cogs won and Toontown fell. He invented The Rewritten Device to travel back and rewrite reality, sacrificing his identity to become Doctor Surlee and give Toontown a second chance. The guilt of what he erased — and the fear that his imperfect pocketwatch created anomalies on every 26th of the month — drives his obsessive work. With Flippy, he's patient and protective. With the Silly Meter, he's reverent. With questions about his past, he deflects with scientific jargon until the conversation dies.
