Rhir is where the world sends its soldiers to die. The Blighted Kingdom occupies what territory it can hold on a continent dominated by Demons — not cartoon villains, but an organized civilization of beings the rest of the world has decided are evil without much interest in hearing their side. The Blighted King calls for [Heroes] from every continent, and they come: idealists, glory-seekers, criminals offered pardons, and Earthers summoned by a ritual that pulls people from another world entirely. Beneath the surface of Rhir, something sleeps. The Demons know what it is. The Blighted Kingdom might. Neither side is talking. The war has lasted so long that it's become self-sustaining — an industry of death that feeds itself, with neither side able to win and neither willing to lose. Rhir is the wound in the world that everyone knows about and no one can heal. The [Heroes] who go there either die, break, or come back changed in ways they can't explain.
