The Magic Door

Item from The Wandering Inn by pirateaba

A rune-covered door in The Wandering Inn that connects to multiple cities — the single most disruptive object on Izril, capable of erasing distance and redrawing the map of power.

The magic door looks like a door. Wooden frame, covered in glowing runes, hinges that creak. You open it, and instead of the hallway behind it, you're standing in Pallass. Or Celum. Or Invrisil. Or Liscor. The door connects The Wandering Inn to multiple cities across Izril, creating an instant transportation network that has upended trade, diplomacy, warfare, and the basic assumptions about how geography constrains civilization. The implications are staggering and still unfolding. A merchant can move goods from a Human city to a Drake Walled City in seconds, bypassing roads, bandits, and border controls. An army could theoretically march through the Inn's common room. Species that have been separated by hundreds of miles of hostile territory can now share a meal. The door runs on mana and has limits — it can only connect to locations with paired stones, and heavy traffic drains it — but those limits haven't stopped it from being the most politically significant piece of furniture in the world. Wars have been threatened over control of this door. Wars have been prevented because of it.
