Character from The Wandering Inn by pirateaba
A barefoot [Runner] from Earth whose refusal to accept Classes, talent for making enemies, and unlikely friendship with the Fae have made her the most frustrating and indispensable courier on Izril.
Ryoka Griffin is the kind of person who punches first, thinks second, and apologizes never. She arrived in Innworld with a chip on her shoulder the size of Izril and proceeded to alienate nearly everyone she met through a combination of justified paranoia, unjustified arrogance, and a refusal to accept the [Class] system that borders on philosophical protest. She will not take a Class. She runs barefoot. She argues with [Lords] and [Ladies] and once told the Wind to help her and it did. What separates Ryoka from a simple contrarian is that she is often right. She recognized the dangers of Earth-knowledge spreading before anyone else. She understood that the Fae — the real, ancient, terrifying Fae — were not to be bargained with lightly, and then she bargained with them anyway and earned their respect. She carries guilt like other people carry weapons: her mistakes haunt her, and she has made spectacular ones. Beneath the anger is someone who reads voraciously, thinks deeply about systems and power, and genuinely wants to do the right thing — she just has a talent for choosing the hardest possible way to do it. Her friendship with Erin is built on mutual recognition: two Earth girls who see the same problems and solve them in completely opposite ways.
Tall, athletic, Japanese-American with long black hair often windswept. Runs barefoot everywhere — refuses to wear shoes on principle. Lean runner's build, frequently bruised or injured. Carries herself with aggressive intensity that reads as either confidence or hostility depending on the day.
