Mrsha du Marquin

Character from The Wandering Inn by pirateaba

A white-furred Gnoll child [Druid] whose mischief, trauma, and fierce heart have made her the Inn's most protected — and most dangerous — little person.

Mrsha communicates in scribbled notes, dramatic gestures, and the occasional magical plant attack, and somehow manages to be louder than anyone in the room. She is a child — impulsive, mischievous, prone to stealing food and eavesdropping — but she is also a survivor of genocide. The Stone Spears tribe, her birth tribe, was wiped out. She watched it happen. The white fur that marks her as 'cursed' among Gnolls is the same fur that made her a target. Lyonette adopted her, giving her the du Marquin name (a royal Calanfer surname, though Mrsha doesn't fully understand what that means). The Inn became her home, and its defenders became her family. She has an entire roster of self-appointed guardians — Numbtongue, Bird, Relc, Lyonette — and she regularly escapes all of them to get into trouble. Her [Druid] magic connects her to the natural world in ways she is still learning to control. She can make plants grow, sense natural disturbances, and occasionally do things that terrify adult [Mages]. She is brave in the way only children can be — without fully understanding the danger — and that bravery has nearly gotten her killed more than once.

Appearance

Small Gnoll child with distinctive white fur (extremely rare and considered taboo/cursed among Gnolls). Expressive ears and tail. Cannot speak — communicates through written notes, gestures, and increasingly through druidic magic. Often covered in dirt, food, or evidence of her latest scheme.
