Dense forest province of the Bosmer, the Wood Elves. Now under Aldmeri Dominion control, Valenwood's walking tree-cities and carnivorous culture make it one of Tamriel's most alien landscapes.
Valenwood is dominated by the great forests of Tamriel's southwest, where the Bosmer live in harmony with nature under the Green Pact — a sacred agreement with the forest god Y'ffre that forbids them from harming plant life. This means the Bosmer are obligate carnivores who build nothing from wood, instead shaping their cities from living trees. The Wild Hunt, a terrifying transformation ritual, serves as their ultimate weapon. Valenwood fell under Thalmor control when the Aldmeri Dominion absorbed it, and many Bosmer chafe under Altmer rule. The province's impenetrable forests have historically made it nearly impossible to conquer by conventional military means.
An endless canopy of ancient forest stretches to every horizon, trees so vast that entire cities nestle in their branches. Undergrowth teems with dangerous wildlife and migrating herds. Shafts of green-gold light pierce the canopy, illuminating mossy forest floors. Some trees walk, shifting the landscape over centuries.
