The grand capital of the Empire, built on an island in Lake Rumare at the heart of Cyrodiil. Centered on the ancient White-Gold Tower, it serves as the political and cultural center of Imperial civilization.
The Imperial City is the oldest and most important city in Cyrodiil, built around the White-Gold Tower originally constructed by the Ayleids in the Merethic Era. The city served as the capital of every major human empire on Tamriel and remains the seat of the Elder Council. During the Great War, the Aldmeri Dominion captured and sacked the city before being driven out at the Battle of the Red Ring — a pyrrhic victory that led to the humiliating White-Gold Concordat. The city still bears scars from both the Oblivion Crisis, when Daedric siege engines battered its walls, and the Great War. Despite the Empire's decline, the Imperial City remains Tamriel's largest and most cosmopolitan metropolis.
A magnificent circular city on an island, divided into districts radiating from the central White-Gold Tower that soars impossibly high. Stone walls and towers protect each district, connected by bridges spanning waterways. The Imperial Palace complex surrounds the Tower's base. The Waterfront district hugs the lakeshore, while the Arcane University occupies the southeastern quarter.
