Desert province of the Redguards, the most naturally gifted warriors in Tamriel. Hammerfell rejected the White-Gold Concordat and fought the Aldmeri Dominion to a standstill, earning its independence from the Empire.
Hammerfell is homeland to the Redguards, descendants of the Yokudans who fled their sinking continent in the First Era. The province's warrior culture proved decisive during the Great War — after the Empire signed the White-Gold Concordat, Hammerfell refused to accept its terms and continued fighting alone. The Redguards eventually forced the Aldmeri Dominion to withdraw, signing a separate peace treaty. This act of defiance made Hammerfell the first province to formally leave the Empire in centuries. The Alik'r warriors remain legendary swordsmen, and Hammerfell's independence demonstrates that the Thalmor are not invincible.
Vast stretches of the Alik'r Desert dominate the interior, with golden dunes shifting beneath a merciless sun. Coastal cities rise from sandstone cliffs along the Iliac Bay and western shores. Oases shelter palm groves and ancient Yokudan ruins. The northern border transitions to scrubland and rocky highlands near Skyrim.
