Volendrung

Item from The Elder Scrolls by Bethesda Game Studios

A legendary warhammer of Dwemer origin that became the Daedric artifact of Malacath, patron of the Orcs. Volendrung absorbs the stamina of those it strikes, allowing its wielder to fight without tiring.

Volendrung's history bridges two cultures — originally a Dwemer artifact, it became associated with Malacath, the Daedric Prince of the spurned and ostracized, patron deity of the Orcs. The hammer absorbs stamina from those it strikes, allowing its wielder to swing endlessly without tiring. In Skyrim, Malacath bestows Volendrung upon the Dragonborn after resolving a conflict involving the Orc stronghold of Largashbur, where the giant Yamarz has failed as chieftain. The artifact represents Malacath's code — that strength and honor are earned through hardship, and the weak must be cast aside for the strong to survive.

Appearance

An enormous two-handed warhammer of dark Dwemer metal, its massive head etched with angular Dwemer designs. The weapon is impossibly heavy for most warriors, yet feels balanced in the hands of one chosen by Malacath. A faint greenish energy pulses along its striking surface.

Also known as: Volendrung, the Hammer of Might, Malacath's hammer
