Ysgramor

Character from The Elder Scrolls by Bethesda Game Studios

Legendary Nord hero who led the Five Hundred Companions from Atmora to Tamriel, establishing Nordic civilization in Skyrim. Wielder of the axe Wuuthrad and founder of the Companions.

Ysgramor is the most revered hero in Nordic history — the legendary warrior who led the Five Hundred Companions from the frozen continent of Atmora to Tamriel, establishing the Nordic presence in Skyrim that endures to this day. He is credited with being the first human to transcribe the Nordic language using elven principles of writing, bridging the oral and written traditions. The Night of Tears — when the Snow Elves destroyed the Nordic settlement of Saarthal — drove Ysgramor and his sons back to Atmora. There, consumed by grief and rage, he assembled the Five Hundred Companions and returned to Skyrim to wage a war of retribution against the Snow Elves that ultimately drove them underground, where they devolved into the blind Falmer. His legacy defines Nordic culture. The Companions of Whiterun trace their lineage directly to his Five Hundred, and Jorrvaskr — their mead hall — is built around the overturned ship that carried Ysgramor's closest warriors to Whiterun. His tomb on the northern coast of Skyrim serves as the final trial for the Companions' initiation. His battleaxe Wuuthrad is their most sacred relic, and in Sovngarde, he feasts eternally among the honored dead.

Appearance

A massive Nord warrior of legendary proportions, clad in ancient Nordic armor adorned with carved whale-bone and silver knotwork. His face is hidden behind a horned helm, but his presence radiates the primal force of the first Nords — men who were more like forces of nature than people. He carries Wuuthrad, his legendary battleaxe, which gleams with an inner light.
