Vaermina

Character from The Elder Scrolls by Bethesda Game Studios

Daedric Prince of Nightmares, Dreams, and Evil Omens. Harvests mortal fears from their sleeping minds and weaves them into torments. Her realm is built from stolen dreams.

Vaermina is the Daedric Prince of Nightmares and Evil Omens, the Weaver of the Panoply. Her sphere is the realm of dreams and the terror that lurks within them. She harvests the fears and memories of sleeping mortals, using them to construct ever more elaborate nightmares and to furnish her realm of Quagmire — a shifting hellscape built entirely from stolen dreams. In Skyrim, her quest centers on the Skull of Corruption in Nightcaller Temple, where her priests used the artifact to steal the dreams of the people of Dawnstar, causing the entire town to suffer from terrible nightmares. The Skull of Corruption grows more powerful when filled with stolen dreams, making it one of the more disturbing Daedric artifacts. Vaermina's power is insidious rather than overt. She does not conquer or destroy — she simply ensures that no mortal ever truly rests. Her influence creeps in during the vulnerable hours of sleep, turning the one place mortals should feel safe into a landscape of terror. Her followers believe that nightmares contain prophecy, and that by mastering fear, they can glimpse the future.

Appearance

A tall, gaunt woman in dark robes that shift and writhe like things seen at the edge of sleep. Her face is beautiful but wrong — features that rearrange subtly when you're not looking directly, like a face glimpsed in a nightmare. Her eyes are closed or hooded, as if perpetually dreaming, and wisps of dark mist curl from her fingertips like tendrils of bad dreams escaping into reality.
