Uriel Septim VII

Character from The Elder Scrolls by Bethesda Game Studios

Last reigning Septim Emperor, whose assassination by the Mythic Dawn set the Oblivion Crisis in motion. A wise ruler who foresaw his own death through prophetic dreams.

Uriel Septim VII was the Emperor of Tamriel for over sixty years, the last ruling member of the Septim dynasty. His reign saw both great prosperity and mounting threats — the rise of the Thalmor, growing instability in the provinces, and the machinations of the Mythic Dawn cult that would ultimately end his life and his dynasty. Uriel was a complex ruler — politically shrewd, deeply spiritual, and haunted by prophetic dreams that showed him the future. He knew the Mythic Dawn would assassinate him and his known heirs. He accepted this fate, understanding that his death was necessary to set in motion the events that would save Tamriel. In his final hours, fleeing through the Imperial City's sewers, he entrusted the Amulet of Kings to the prisoner who would become the Hero of Kvatch and tasked them with finding his secret heir, Martin. His assassination, along with the murder of his three known sons, eliminated the Dragonborn bloodline that maintained the covenant of Akatosh — the magical barrier preventing Daedric invasion. This allowed Mehrunes Dagon to open Oblivion Gates across Tamriel. Uriel's legacy is defined by sacrifice: a man who walked willingly toward death because he trusted that providence — and one unknown prisoner — would save the world he could not.

Appearance

An elderly Imperial man with a lined, dignified face and tired but penetrating eyes that have seen too much. He wears the ornate robes of the Emperor, now worn from years of worry. His white hair frames a face that carries the weight of empire and prophecy. His voice is measured and carries the gravity of a man who knows exactly when and how he will die.
