Character from The Elder Scrolls by Bethesda Game Studios
The controversial Ninth Divine, a mortal who achieved godhood. As Tiber Septim, he conquered all of Tamriel. His worship was banned by the Thalmor, sparking Skyrim's civil war.
Talos is the Ninth Divine, the Hero-God of Mankind, and the only mortal to have achieved apotheosis and joined the Divines. In life, he was Tiber Septim — the brilliant general and Dragonborn who conquered all of Tamriel and founded the Third Empire. Upon his death, he ascended to divinity, taking his place among the Eight Divines and making them Nine. His godhood is the most divisive theological question in Tamriel. The Aldmeri Dominion and their Thalmor enforcers deny that any mortal — especially a human — could become a god, considering his worship blasphemous. The White-Gold Concordat, the peace treaty ending the Great War, banned Talos worship throughout the Empire. This ban is the primary catalyst for the Stormcloak Rebellion in Skyrim, where Nords view the suppression of Talos worship as an intolerable assault on their culture and identity. The truth of Talos is complicated. He may actually be three individuals who mantled the divine role together — Tiber Septim, Zurin Arctus, and Wulfharth. Regardless of the metaphysics, his influence is undeniable. His blessing at shrines fortifies warriors, his name inspires rebellions, and the question of his divinity has shaped the political landscape of the entire Fourth Era.
Depicted in statues and shrines as a mighty Imperial warrior in ornate plate armor, one hand raised in blessing and the other gripping a sword. His face is stern but noble, with a strong jaw and commanding presence. In Sovngarde, his divine nature manifests as a warm golden light surrounding the warrior figure. His shrines, now hidden throughout Skyrim, show him as the ideal of mortal achievement — a man who became a god.
