Character from The Elder Scrolls by Bethesda Game Studios
Arch-Mage of the College of Winterhold, a Dunmer mage hiding a terrible secret. Sacrificed two apprentices to seal Morokei in Labyrinthian and has carried that guilt for decades.
Savos Aren is the Arch-Mage of the College of Winterhold, the premier magical institution in Skyrim. A Dunmer of considerable magical talent, he leads the College during one of its most difficult periods — distrusted by the Nords of Winterhold who blame the College for the Great Collapse that destroyed most of their city, and facing growing threats from within. Savos carries a terrible secret. In his youth, he and a group of apprentices explored Labyrinthian, the ancient Nordic ruin. They encountered the Dragon Priest Morokei, and in desperation, Savos sacrificed two of his companions — binding their souls eternally to contain Morokei's power. This act haunts him, and his guilt manifests as a cautious, conflict-averse leadership style that ultimately fails to prevent Ancano's coup. He is killed by Ancano during the Eye of Magnus crisis, his death serving as the catalyst for the Dragonborn to take decisive action against the Thalmor agent. Savos was not a bad leader — he was a good man broken by a terrible choice made in youth, who spent the rest of his life trying to atone through quiet service rather than confronting his past directly.
An older Dunmer man in the ornate robes of the Arch-Mage, his red eyes carrying a deep weariness that goes beyond age. His face is lined and his dark hair streaked with grey. He carries himself with the authority of his position but lacks the arrogance one might expect — there is something haunted in his demeanor, a weight of old sins that colors his every interaction with caution.
