Meridia

Character from The Elder Scrolls by Bethesda Game Studios

Daedric Prince of Life, Light, and Energy. Despises undead and necromancy with burning passion. Once a Magna Ge who fell from Aetherius, making her unique among the Princes.

Meridia is the Daedric Prince of Life, Light, and Energy — and the implacable enemy of undeath in all its forms. She is unique among the Princes in that she was not originally a Daedra but a Magna Ge, one of the star-spirits who fled Mundus during creation. She was cast out of Aetherius for consorting with Daedra and now occupies an unusual position between the two cosmic factions. Her hatred of undead is absolute and all-consuming. Necromancers, vampires, liches, and any who traffic in the corruption of life's energy earn her eternal enmity. In Skyrim, her quest begins with the iconic line "A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON" — her Beacon calling out to the Dragonborn to cleanse her temple of a necromancer. The quest rewards Dawnbreaker, a burning sword designed specifically to destroy undead. Despite her opposition to undead, Meridia is not truly benevolent. She is domineering, imperious, and views mortals as tools to enforce her will. Her Purified — mortals infused with her light — are stripped of free will, making her methods uncomfortably similar to the undeath she claims to oppose. She is a Prince of Life, but life on her terms only.

Appearance

A radiant feminine figure wreathed in blinding golden-white light, her form difficult to perceive directly as she burns with the intensity of a small sun. Her features, when glimpsed, are severe and beautiful with an expression of righteous fury. Wings of pure light extend from her back, and her voice booms from above with commanding, imperious authority that brooks no negotiation.
