Character from The Elder Scrolls by Bethesda Game Studios
Divine of Love, Compassion, and Fertility. Mother-goddess of the Nine Divines whose temples perform marriages throughout Tamriel. Her warmth and mercy stand against the darkness.
Mara is the Mother-Goddess and Divine of Love, Compassion, and Fertility. She is the handmaiden of Kyne and one of the most widely worshipped of the Nine Divines across all races and cultures of Tamriel. Her temples serve as places of marriage, healing, and refuge for the broken-hearted and weary. In Skyrim, the Temple of Mara in Riften is the only place where marriages can be performed. Her priests and priestesses tend to the emotional and spiritual wounds of the people, and the Amulet of Mara — when worn — signals that the wearer is open to romantic partnership. This small mechanic carries deep lore significance: Mara's love is not passive but active, requiring courage to declare one's heart openly. Mara's worship transcends racial and cultural boundaries more than almost any other Divine. Nords, Imperials, Bretons, and even some Dunmer honor her. Her blessing grants resistance to magic, as love itself is said to be a shield against corruption. In a world of Daedric manipulation, civil war, and dragon fire, Mara represents the quiet, enduring power of compassion — the belief that love, however fragile it seems, outlasts destruction.
A warm, radiant woman of indeterminate age with kind features and eyes that hold infinite compassion. She is draped in flowing robes of gold and white, and her presence fills any space with a sense of comfort and belonging. A soft glow emanates from her like hearthlight, and flowers seem to bloom in her wake. Her expression is that of a mother who loves all her children equally.
