Hircine

Character from The Elder Scrolls by Bethesda Game Studios

Daedric Prince of the Hunt, the Chase, and the Great Game. Creator of lycanthropy and lord of all were-creatures. Values the thrill of the hunt above all else.

Hircine is the Daedric Prince of the Hunt, the Father of Manbeasts, and the lord of all lycanthropes. His sphere is the chase, the thrill of predator and prey, and the primal joy of the hunt. He does not care whether his followers are the hunters or the hunted — only that the game is played with passion and skill. Hircine created lycanthropy as his gift to mortals, allowing them to embrace their bestial nature and hunt as true predators. All werewolves, werebears, and other were-creatures owe their existence to his blessing — or curse, depending on perspective. The Companions of Whiterun carry his blood through the Circle, their inner council, granting them the beast form in exchange for their souls passing to his Hunting Grounds rather than Sovngarde upon death. In Skyrim, Hircine's quest involves a cursed werewolf named Sinding and the choice between showing mercy or completing the hunt. His artifact, the Savior's Hide, protects against magic, while the Ring of Hircine grants additional werewolf transformations. His Hunting Grounds are said to be an endless wild where the greatest hunters pursue the greatest prey for eternity — paradise for those who live for the chase.

Appearance

A towering huntsman clad in primitive fur and leather armor, his body powerfully built and radiating primal energy. His face is hidden behind a skull-like deer mask with enormous antlers that branch like ancient trees. Beneath the mask, glimpses of a sharp-featured, wild face can be seen. He carries a great hunting spear and moves with the silent, coiled grace of a predator about to strike.
