Chief of the Nine Divines, the Dragon God of Time. Created the Dragonborn covenant with mortals and manifested as a flaming dragon avatar to banish Mehrunes Dagon during the Oblivion Crisis.
Akatosh is the Dragon God of Time, chief deity of the Nine Divines, and the most powerful of the Aedra. He is the firstborn of the et'Ada, the original spirits, and his sphere encompasses all of linear time. Without Akatosh, time itself would cease to have meaning — events would not follow one another, and causality would unravel. Akatosh established the covenant of the Dragonborn through the Amulet of Kings, granting certain mortals the dragon blood that allows them to absorb dragon souls and use the Thu'um instinctively. This covenant protected Tamriel from Oblivion for millennia by maintaining the barriers between worlds. When Martin Septim shattered the Amulet during the Oblivion Crisis, Akatosh manifested as a flaming dragon avatar and personally banished Mehrunes Dagon back to Oblivion — one of the most dramatic divine interventions in Tamriel's history. As an Aedra, Akatosh sacrificed much of his power to help create Mundus, leaving him unable to directly intervene in mortal affairs except in the most extreme circumstances. The dragons of Nirn are his children, fragments of his divine nature given independent form. Alduin, the World-Eater, is his firstborn — though Alduin's rebellion against his purpose is Akatosh's greatest sorrow.
Most commonly depicted as an enormous golden dragon wreathed in divine fire, his scales shimmering with the light of every sunrise that has ever been or will be. His eyes hold the depth of all time — past, present, and future simultaneously. When manifesting his avatar, he appears as a towering dragon of white-gold flame, so bright that mortal eyes can barely perceive his true form. His presence stretches time itself, each moment near him feeling like an eternity.
