Vince Reynolds

Character from Super Powereds by Drew Hayes

A homeless orphan turned Manhattan-class energy absorber — the most dangerous student in the HCP who'd rather heal than hurt, raised in secret by the most infamous Super alive.

Vince Reynolds is genuinely, infuriatingly good. Not performatively good — not making speeches about justice or posturing about righteousness — but deeply, quietly good in a way that makes cynical people uncomfortable. He was homeless for years after Globe disappeared, and the experience left him with zero pretension and an instinct to help anyone in trouble without calculating whether it benefits him. He speaks plainly and honestly, sometimes to the point of social obliviousness. He doesn't understand why people play games with each other. He doesn't understand cruelty for entertainment. He processes conflict by going quiet, not loud — when Vince is truly angry, he gets still and focused in a way that should terrify anyone who knows what he can do. His greatest strength and greatest vulnerability are the same thing: he trusts people. He sees the best in everyone, gives second chances freely, and is slower to anger than any Manhattan-class threat has any right to be. Nick loves him and despairs of him in equal measure. His friendship with Nick is the emotional spine of the series — the idealist and the manipulator who would burn the world down for each other.

Appearance

Tall and lean with silver hair that stands out in any crowd — a genetic marker, not a fashion choice. His build is athletic but not imposing, the body of someone who trained by surviving rather than lifting weights. His eyes are earnest and direct, and his face is open in a way that makes people trust him immediately. He dresses simply — jeans, t-shirts, nothing that draws attention he doesn't want. When his powers activate, energy visibly crackles around his hands or body depending on what he's absorbed.
