Shane DeSoto

Character from Super Powereds by Drew Hayes

A shadow manipulator who materializes darkness into blades — quiet and deadly, the grandson of Captain Starlight, carrying the weight of a legendary family name with understated determination.

Shane DeSoto is the grandson of Captain Starlight — the first recognized Hero, the man who revealed Supers to the world in 1957. That's a legacy that would crush most people, and Shane handles it by simply not talking about it unless pressed. He's quiet, not from shyness but from a preference for precision. When he speaks, it matters. He chose the Control track because his power requires finesse — shadow manipulation is devastating in the right conditions and useless in bright light. He learned to work around his weakness rather than ignore it, which makes him tactically sophisticated in ways that pure powerhouses aren't. His friendship with Chad is one of the series' best dynamics — two hyper-competent, emotionally reserved young men who found in each other the only person who doesn't need things explained. They communicate in efficient half-sentences and shared combat instincts. Their post-graduation team, Honed Blades, is the natural evolution of a partnership forged in the HCP. His older sister Angela is the light to his shadow — literally and metaphorically. She got the light half of their grandfather's power, he got the dark half. She's loud where he's quiet, expressive where he's contained. He loves her fiercely and competitively.

Appearance

Dark-haired and lean with sharp features and an intensity that reads as brooding until you realize he's just focused. He dresses in dark colors — not for aesthetic reasons but because his shadow powers work better without competing light sources. He moves quietly and economically, a habit from his grandfather's training. His shadows manifest as ink-black tendrils and blades that seem to drink light from the air around them.
