Character from Super Powereds by Drew Hayes
The Subtlety professor who can turn into fog — a Class of Legends graduate serving at Lander in lieu of prison, Alice's uncle, and the man who reads trashy romance novels between training the next generation of spies.
Sean Pendleton teaches Subtlety at Lander because the alternative is prison. His crimes are never fully detailed, but they were serious enough that Hero service was offered as an alternative to incarceration, and he took it. He's made peace with the arrangement and discovered, somewhat to his own surprise, that he's a good teacher. He's Alice's uncle — half-brother to her mother Shelby — and he carries guilt about the family's destruction by Charles Adair. He's fond of Alice in a way that's protective without being overbearing, and he navigates the conflict of interest with the dry pragmatism of a Subtlety specialist. His teaching style is unconventional — he values cunning over power and preparation over strength. He reads trashy romance novels openly and without embarrassment, which students find either endearing or baffling. He's funny, irreverent, and exactly the kind of person you'd want teaching people how to operate in the shadows: someone who doesn't take himself too seriously but takes the work very seriously indeed.
Lean and sharp-featured with an easy, sardonic manner that makes students forget he's one of the most dangerous people on campus. He dresses casually for a professor — more field agent than academic. His body can disperse into fog, and even in solid form there's something slightly insubstantial about him, like he might drift apart if you look away.
