Alex Griffen

Character from Super Powereds by Drew Hayes

An empath and telekinetic whose power reads intentions, not thoughts — the nerd who proved that understanding people is a more dangerous weapon than any energy blast.

Alex Griffen is the HCP's resident nerd and he's not sorry about it. He and Hershel bonded over shared love of comics, fantasy novels, and the particular experience of being underestimated in a school full of people who can bench-press buildings. His power — empathic reading and telekinesis — doesn't have the flash of energy blasts or super-strength, but the Control track taught him to use it with devastating precision. He reads emotions and intentions, not actual thoughts — which means he's not invading privacy but he's also almost impossible to lie to. In combat, this translates to anticipating attacks before they happen. His telekinesis is versatile: he can manipulate energy, block sound, and affect internal organs at range. He's the kind of fighter who wins by knowing what you're going to do before you do it. His friendship with Hershel is one of the series' most genuine relationships — two guys who genuinely enjoy each other's company without any of the competitive posturing that infects most HCP social dynamics. He has a daughter named Leia in the future, which tells you everything about who he is.

Appearance

Average build with an approachable, unremarkable appearance that contrasts with the flashier cadets at Lander. He has the look of someone who spends more time thinking than training, though the HCP has added muscle to his frame. His expression is often contemplative — the face of someone who's reading the emotional weather of a room before deciding how to engage.
