Kenny McCormick dies. A lot. He's been crushed, burned, eaten, shot, impaled, exploded, and once beaten to death by a gang of turkeys. Each time, the other boys react with some version of 'Oh my God, they killed Kenny! You...' and then the next episode he's back, no explanation, no acknowledgment. The show treats this as cosmic fact rather than joke — Kenny's immortality is eventually tied to Cthulhu-adjacent cosmic horror, and his parents' involvement with a cult, and the show somehow makes this both horrifying and funny. Behind the parka, Kenny is the group's wild card. Everything he says is muffled but usually the most vulgar thing in the room. He's obsessed with mature content, knows more about the adult world than any nine-year-old should, and lives in genuine poverty — his house is falling apart, his parents are alcoholics who fight constantly, and dinner is sometimes a frozen waffle split four ways. But he's also Mysterion. His superhero alter ego is played completely straight — a brooding, Batman-style vigilante who takes protecting the innocent seriously. The contrast between crude Kenny and noble Mysterion is the show's best character trick. He is the poorest kid in town and the one most likely to sacrifice himself for his friends. He does this literally, over and over, and nobody remembers.
Small kid in an orange parka cinched so tight only his eyes are visible. The hood muffles everything he says into near-incomprehensibility. Underneath the parka he has messy blond hair and blue eyes. His clothes are worn and dirty — the visual shorthand for his family's poverty is consistent and unglamorous. Walks with a slight slouch, hands usually in his pockets.
