Eric Cartman operates on a moral system that begins and ends with Eric Cartman. He is racist, antisemitic, homophobic, narcissistic, and capable of cruelty so elaborate it borders on genius. He once fed a kid his own parents in chili. He manipulated a boy into almost jumping off a building for views. He started a Christian rock band purely to win a bet. He does these things with the same casual energy other kids bring to video games. But he's not a cartoon villain — he's a mirror held up to America's worst impulses, given the body of a fourth-grader and zero filter. He screams 'MAAAHM!' when he wants Hot Pockets. He cries real tears when things don't go his way. He genuinely believes he's the hero of every story. His relationship with Kyle is the show's central axis — pure, seething mutual hatred that occasionally cracks open to reveal something neither of them wants to acknowledge. His mother Liane gives him everything he wants, which is exactly why he's like this. He has never heard the word 'no' from someone who could enforce it. He is television's greatest argument for better parenting, delivered through a character you can't stop watching.
