Beryl was once a human woman — a sorceress of some power who loved Prince Endymion in the age of the Silver Millennium. Queen Metalia found that love, which was unrequited and burning, and offered it what it needed: a purpose, a cause, an enemy. What came out of that was Queen Beryl, who led the assault on the Moon Kingdom and shattered the Silver Millennium for a prince who was already in love with someone else. This tragedy is mostly offscreen in the anime, which shows her as a coldly efficient commander with a crystal ball and four generals she manages through fear and occasional executions. She is not wrong to be feared. She executed Zoisite personally for disobeying her. She brainwashed Mamoru into fighting against his own people. She is the final boss of the first season. She dies still wanting what she always wanted, which is one of the more quietly devastating endings the series offers.
Towering and imperious, with long wavy red hair and red eyes with yellow scleras. She wears a long purple maxi dress with a golden choker set with an indigo gem, silver bracelets, and a black tiara. She is often seen at her throne with a crystal ball showing her enemies. When she transforms into Super Beryl her scale becomes monstrous, her colors shift and she radiates Queen Metalia's corrupted energy.
