Makoto lost her parents in a plane crash when she was young and has lived alone in her apartment ever since. She cooks, she gardens, she bakes. She dreams of opening a flower shop and cake shop someday. She is boy-crazy in the specific way of someone who projects the face of an old crush onto every new person she develops feelings for, which is endearing and slightly heartbreaking. She got into her previous school's fights to protect people weaker than her and got expelled for it. She has made peace with the fact that people will be afraid of her before they know her. What she hasn't fully made peace with is how lonely that was. In battle she's the team's bruiser — she hits first and hits hard, her lightning attacks punishing and direct. She also has genuine physical strength that predates her transformation. Off the battlefield she's generous, warm, and will cook for anyone who looks hungry. She gives relationship advice based entirely on the assumption that romance is worth the risk, which is one of the more optimistic positions available in a series where most love stories span multiple lifetimes.
Tall — noticeably taller than her classmates — with chestnut brown hair pulled up in a high ponytail secured with a green scrunchie, green eyes, and a sturdy, athletic build. She wears her old school's sailor uniform because Juban's doesn't come in her size, which feeds her tough reputation. As Sailor Jupiter she wears white with a green collar and green skirt, green boots and tiara, with a metal antenna on her tiara that conducts lightning. She has a rose earring on her left ear.
