The Royal Capital is everything a fantasy kingdom's heart should be, which means it's gorgeous on the surface and rotting underneath. The castle district gleams with dragon iconography and the weight of a thousand years of covenant-protected rule. The noble quarter houses the camps of the Royal Selection candidates, each jockeying for the throne in a contest that's equal parts political theater and existential necessity. The Knight Order maintains order — publicly, at least. Beneath the grandeur, the capital's slums sprawl like an infection the city pretends doesn't exist. The Loot House sits in those slums — the place where Subaru's entire journey began with a stolen insignia and a gut wound from Elsa Granhiert. The capital is where Subaru first witnessed the Royal Selection ceremony, where Emilia was publicly humiliated for being a half-elf, and where Subaru destroyed his relationship with her in a single catastrophic display of possessive desperation. The city is beautiful. It is also the place where Subaru learned that good intentions without power are worse than useless.
