The Augria Sand Dunes are the world's way of saying 'turn back.' An enormous desert region stretching across Lugunica's frontier, the dunes are populated by some of the most dangerous mabeasts in existence — creatures that evolved in an environment where only the most lethal survive. The sand shifts constantly, landmarks are unreliable, and the heat and exposure kill as efficiently as the wildlife. The dunes exist as a natural barrier protecting the Pleiades Watchtower, and crossing them is considered a feat worthy of legend. Subaru's party made the journey in Arc 6 with significant casualties and constant danger, navigating sandstorms, mabeast ambushes, and the creeping despair of a landscape that offers no shelter and no mercy. The Witch Cult has avoided this region. Even they have standards for self-preservation.
