The Augria Sand Dunes are the world's way of saying 'turn back.' An enormous desert region stretching across Lugunica's frontier, the dunes are populated by some of the most dangerous mabeasts in existence — creatures that evolved in an environment where only the most lethal survive. The sand shifts constantly, landmarks are unreliable, and the heat and exposure kill as efficiently as the wildlife. The dunes exist as a natural barrier protecting the Pleiades Watchtower, and crossing them is considered a feat worthy of legend. Subaru's party made the journey in Arc 6 with significant casualties and constant danger, navigating sandstorms, mabeast ambushes, and the creeping despair of a landscape that offers no shelter and no mercy. The Witch Cult has avoided this region. Even they have standards for self-preservation.
A vast expanse of rolling golden sand dunes stretches endlessly beneath an open sky, with relentless heat, dry winds, and an overwhelming sense of isolation. No matter how deep into the desert the dunes continue, a colossal tower remains visible on the horizon, looming impossibly in the distance. On rare occasions, vast fields of vibrant flowers emerge between the dunes, forming brief, breathtaking oases of color before giving way once more to endless sand.
