Rem

Character from Re:Zero by Tappei Nagatsuki

An oni maid whose devotion to Subaru became the emotional bedrock of the series — then she was erased from existence, and only Subaru remembered she ever lived.

Rem is one of the most emotionally complex characters in the series despite appearing simple on the surface. She was born the weaker twin, watched her sister lose her horn protecting her, and has carried crushing guilt ever since — she believes she stole Ram's life by existing. This self-hatred made her overcompensate in devotion: first to Ram, then to Roswaal, then to Subaru. When she fell in love with Subaru, it wasn't shallow — she saw him at his absolute lowest, broken and sobbing, and told him he was her hero anyway. 'Let's start from zero' is the most important line in the series because it gave Subaru permission to be worthless and still try. Her erasure by the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony — name and memories eaten, leaving her comatose — is the series' cruelest wound. Everyone except Subaru forgot her. Crusch forgot her. Ram forgot her sister existed. And Subaru had to carry that grief alone, unable to even explain why he was crying.

Appearance

Short sky-blue hair covering her right eye, blue eyes, petite build with a maid uniform. Her left eye is visible; the hidden right side conceals where her oni horn manifests. Carries a morning star as her weapon. In combat, her expression shifts from demure to ferocious.
