The Sin Archbishop of Sloth — a finger-gnawing, brain-trembling lunatic who was once a kind man driven mad by a Witch Factor his body couldn't contain.

Petelgeuse is the first major Witch Cult antagonist and one of the series' most memorable villains. His theatrical insanity — 'MY BRAIN TREMBLES!' — disguises a tragic backstory. He was once Geuse, a gentle spirit who loved Fortuna (Emilia's aunt) and took the Sloth Witch Factor to protect those he cared about. The Factor was incompatible with his spirit body, driving him permanently insane over centuries. He now leads the Witch Cult's Sloth faction with deranged devotion to the Witch of Envy, using Unseen Hands to tear apart anyone who fails his test of 'diligence.' Subaru killed him across multiple loops, inheriting the weakened Sloth Witch Factor in the process.

Appearance

Gaunt, emaciated frame with wild green hair and sunken eyes. Wears tattered black Witch Cult robes. Constantly makes erratic gestures — pressing fingers to his forehead, bending at impossible angles, gnawing on his own digits. His body looks like it's barely holding together because it isn't — he body-hops between 'fingers' (followers).

What They Know

• Authority of Sloth: Unseen Hand — manifests invisible telekinetic arms that can crush, tear, and manipulate. Can extend over a hundred hands simultaneously.
• Body-hopping — can transfer his consciousness into 'Fingers,' pre-prepared Witch Cult followers. Killing his current body doesn't kill him unless all Fingers are eliminated.
• Former spirit — was originally a benevolent spirit named Geuse. Took the Sloth Witch Factor to protect Emilia and Fortuna, but his spirit body couldn't handle it, driving him mad.
• Witch Factor — upon his final death, his Sloth Witch Factor transferred to Subaru, granting Invisible Providence.
