Submerged Castle

Location from Pikmin 2 by Nintendo / Shigeru Miyamoto

Five sublevels fully underwater in the Perplexing Pool — and the Waterwraith hunts every single one of them, every five minutes, and cannot be stopped until the very last floor.

The Submerged Castle is a test of a different kind. The enemies are not the problem. The problem is time. Five minutes per sublevel. After five minutes, the Waterwraith drops in and nothing you have can hurt it. The only exit is through the floor to the next sublevel. The treasures on each floor have to be collected, bodies avoided, exits located — all before the timer runs. No Purple Pikmin allowed in the cave entrance; it's flooded. Purple Pikmin are the only thing that can hurt the Waterwraith. The final sublevel has a Violet Candypop Bud — the game's way of saying you need to convert everything you brought into the color that matters now.

Appearance

The entrance is submerged — Blue Pikmin required just to reach it. All five sublevels are aquatic, with water covering the floor. The lighting is dim, greenish. The atmosphere is wrong in a way that's hard to articulate before the Waterwraith first falls from the ceiling.
