Exploration Kit

Item from Pikmin 2 by Nintendo / Shigeru Miyamoto

The twelve upgrade devices that give Olimar and Louie new capabilities as they collect treasures — each one unlocked by a specific boss-reward find, making every major cave boss a progression gate.

The Exploration Kit is the spine of Pikmin 2's progression. Each upgrade is earned from a specific treasure tied to a specific boss. The order matters: the Treasure Gauge shows buried treasure, the Survey Chart unlocks new areas, the Anti-Electrifier protects against the Subterranean Complex's hazards. The Pluckaphone — the last upgrade, earned from the Waterwraith — is the most dramatic: a whistle that can pull Pikmin sprouts from the ground, converting the act of finding new Pikmin from a passive walk to an active sweep. The kit is a clock. Each boss fight is a tick.

Appearance

A collection of mismatched alien-as-treasure objects that the Hocotate Ship parses as functional tools: a battery that lights caves, a glove that enables restful sleep, a strip of duct-like tape that reduces electrical damage, running shoes repurposed as Rush Boots. The completed kit glows in the ship's inventory screen; incomplete items are grey.
