Purple Pikmin

Character from Pikmin 2 by Nintendo / Shigeru Miyamoto

Ten times heavier than a standard Pikmin, ten times stronger — they hit the ground like a small earthquake and hit enemies even harder, but they are maddeningly slow.

Purple Pikmin do not run. They lumber. They cannot be thrown far, cannot be thrown high, and in a group of 100 moving at speed they will inevitably fall behind and get lost. None of this matters when they hit something. A thrown Purple Pikmin stomps the ground on landing, dealing area damage to nearby enemies. They carry ten times the weight of a standard Pikmin. They cannot be knocked back by wind attacks or Blowhog blasts. The Waterwraith — the unkillable horror of the Submerged Castle — becomes vulnerable only to them. They are the answer to problems that seem to have no answer. Getting enough of them is its own puzzle.

Appearance

Larger and rounder than standard Pikmin types — visibly stockier, almost sumo-like in proportion. Deep purple with six head-hairs used as feelers. Their throw arc is brutally low. When they land, there's impact. They stand 33mm tall — the tallest of the common types.

Also known as: Purples, Purple Pikmin
