Man-at-Legs

Character from Pikmin 2 by Nintendo / Shigeru Miyamoto

A bio-mechanical Arachnorb with a laser-guided machine gun concealed in its underbelly — and according to Olimar's notes, it isn't in control of what it fires.

The Man-at-Legs is the closest thing Pikmin 2 has to a horror movie reveal. It lies dormant in the floor — just another burrowing creature, seemingly — until something gets close, and then the panels open and the gun comes out. Olimar notes that it fires without conscious intent. The machine controls the creature. Whatever lived inside that mechanical body is not directing the violence anymore. This does not make the violence less effective. It is named after 'man-at-arms,' a medieval professional soldier. The name fits.

Appearance

Mostly mechanical in the torso, sheathed in metal plates with exhaust pipes continually venting smoke. Four legs — three organic, black, spider-like; one mechanical. When agitated, the underbelly panels split and a rotary gun extends, tracking targets with a visible red laser sight. The interior, when exposed, shows biological filaments stretched to accommodate the weapon.

Also known as: Man-at-Legs, Navaronian Fake Spider
