Hocotate Ship

Character from Pikmin 2 by Nintendo / Shigeru Miyamoto

A pompous, artificially intelligent rust-bucket of a delivery rocket that speaks to its captains with the confidence of a creature that knows its own value — and theirs.

The Hocotate Ship has opinions about everything. It evaluates every treasure in lavish, occasionally absurd advertising language. It receives nightly reports from the President and transmits the escalating crisis back to the captains with what sounds like relish. Its tone is pompous, disdainful, occasionally warm in the way machines become warm when they've spent too much time with small humans. It is the only one who noticed when Louie ate the Golden Pikpik Carrots, and it said nothing. This detail has never been satisfactorily explained. The Research Pod that detaches underground is a critical lifeline — it stores treasures, houses the Pikmin in emergencies, and can perform an emergency extraction if the captains are overwhelmed. The Ship's AI extends into it, though it sounds slightly more clipped in the tunnels.

Appearance

A battered, steam-powered chocolate delivery rocket, dingy brown with an angel motif on the side and two cockpits — one for each captain. It carries a detachable Research Pod that accompanies the captains underground. After the debt is repaid, it is painted gleaming gold.
