Empress Bulblax

A vast, termite-queen-shaped Bulborb matriarch who fights by rolling and birthing an endless wave of larval offspring — her size makes her formidable; her children make her relentless.

The Empress Bulblax does not eat Pikmin directly. She crushes them. She rolls. She births a continuous stream of Bulborb Larva that swarm the battlefield while she moves, and the combination of her rolling bulk and her children's numbers can shred an unprepared squad in moments. She appears in both the Frontier Cavern and the Hole of Heroes, and in both cases she is the obstacle you have to solve before you can go deeper. She has the most health of any standard boss encounter. Olimar's notes on her scientific name — Oculus matriarcha, 'Eye Matriarch' — have a quiet respect to them. She is doing what she does. So are the Pikmin.

Appearance

Enormous. Her body is segmented like a termite queen — five distinct sections, with legs too small for her mass dangling above the ground. Her markings are Bulborb-standard: red and white spotted. She is far too large to move quickly, which means she rolls. This is worse.

What They Know

• Gives live birth to Bulborb Larva continuously during combat — her offspring swarm the field while she rolls
• Attacks by rolling her massive body across the cavern floor — the only Grub-dog that doesn't kill by eating
• Found as boss of the Frontier Cavern (Valley of Repose) and a repeat encounter in the Hole of Heroes
• Her corpse, if carried to an Onion, would yield 30 Pikmin seeds — but this is only obtainable through certain means
• Defeating her in the Frontier Cavern yields the Rush Boots upgrade from the Repugnant Appendage treasure
