S.S. Dolphin

Item from Pikmin by Nintendo / Shigeru Miyamoto

Olimar's personal ship — custom-built, beloved, smashed to pieces by a comet, and the reason thirty days matter.

The S.S. Dolphin is more than a vehicle — it is Olimar's home away from home, his life support, and the only thing standing between him and death on an alien world. He sleeps in its cockpit. He writes his ship logs from its console. He designed its bowsprit himself, a detail that speaks to the personal pride of a freight pilot who may haul cargo for a living but built his ship's face with his own specifications. The Dolphin exhibits what Olimar describes as apparent sentience — it is 'quick to anger' and its systems have personality. Named after the GameCube's development codename, it is the narrative spine of the game: every ship part recovered is a step closer to escape, and the Dolphin's gradual reassembly is the most visible measure of progress against the 30-day clock. Twenty-five of its thirty parts are required for flight. The five optional parts — including the Nova Blaster, the Massage Machine, and the Secret Safe — reveal Olimar's personality through what he chose to install in his personal ship: a star-destroying weapon, a back massager, and a hidden safe full of bottle caps.

Appearance

A small, rounded spacecraft with a distinctive bowsprit (nose cone) that Olimar personally designed. When damaged, it rests on its side at the Impact Site, hull cracked open, missing pieces scattered across five regions. As parts are recovered, it gradually reassembles — its running lights shifting from red through yellow, green, blue, to purple at full restoration. The ring of light surrounding it serves as a healing station for Olimar's suit.
