The Nova Blaster is a weapon capable of emitting a burst of light powerful enough to destroy stellar objects. Olimar — a freight pilot for a shipping company — has this installed on his personal delivery vehicle. The instruction manual explains why he did not use it to intercept the comet that stranded him: he had placed the ship on autopilot to enjoy tea on what should have been a routine, safe route. This is the distilled essence of Pikmin's comedy: a man with access to a star-destroying weapon is marooned on an alien planet because he was drinking tea. The Nova Blaster is optional — Olimar does not need a stellar-class weapon to fly home. He just wants it back. Because it is his, and he bought it, and a freight pilot's ship is his pride even if no one else understands why.
