A flying nuisance that grabs Pikmin mid-march and replants them as sprouts — it never kills, only wastes time, which on a 30-day clock is its own kind of cruelty.
The Swooping Snitchbug is the most frustrating creature on PNF-404, and it achieves this distinction without killing a single Pikmin. It swoops down from above, grabs up to two Pikmin in its claws, carries them briefly, and then slams them into the ground — which replants them as leaf-stage sprouts, erasing any flower or bud progress. It can even snatch Pikmin directly from Olimar's hand before they are thrown. The genius of the Snitchbug is ecological: it does not eat what it catches. Olimar notes this as a genuine biological mystery. It captures, carries, and discards, serving no apparent predatory purpose. On a planet where everything else either eats Pikmin or ignores them, the Snitchbug chooses a third path — harassment. Its ancestors were ground-dwellers with vestigial wings. Over generations, their antennae enlarged and adapted into functional flight surfaces. The creature is, in evolutionary terms, an insect that learned to fly using its ears.
A brown-bodied flying insect with a green tint between body segments and a golden head trailing orange-tipped antennae. Its antennae are oversized — evolutionary repurposed from vestigial wings — and provide its flight capability. It tilts and banks when turning, moving with a fluid aerial grace that belies its grabbiness. Despite its size, it weighs almost nothing.
