The Mamuta is the gentlest contradiction on PNF-404. It wanders peacefully until provoked, at which point it begins pounding Pikmin into the ground with its massive fists. But here is the twist: this does not kill them. Each pounded Pikmin is driven into the soil as a sprout and instantly blooms into a flower — the highest maturity stage. The Mamuta is not attacking. It is gardening. Olimar's classification confirms it: its scientific name, Hortulanus asymmetria, literally means 'asymmetrical gardener.' It feeds on seeds and fruit. It is the only known species on the planet that actively cultivates plant life rather than consuming or destroying it. The implication — that the Mamuta might perceive Pikmin as plants to tend rather than creatures to fight — is one of the game's most quietly profound ecological details. It appears only at the Impact Site, alternating with the Goolix on even-numbered days starting from Day 8. Its appearance schedule is unique in the game — a creature that shares its territory on a rotating basis, like two gardeners tending the same plot on different days.
