Paradise for heroes — eternal crystal structures overgrown with moss, warriors in recreational combat, and a sense that paradise is what you make of it, which turns out to be complicated.
Elysium is the Underworld's reward for a well-fought life. The heroes who live here are noble, competitive, and perpetually at war with each other — not out of malice, but because that is how they understand paradise. Combat is the point. The culture is honor, glory, and an arrogance that masquerades as virtue. Theseus is the champion. He finds Zagreus's visits a personal affront. Asterius is his partner. Patroclus meditates by the River Lethe and thinks Elysium's residents are embarrassing. The paradox is structural: this is Greek heaven, which means it's full of people who believed the best life was a violent one. Hades finds this tiresome. Patroclus finds it shameful. The parade of brutality continues regardless.
