Asphodel

Location from Hades by Supergiant Games

The second biome — once verdant meadows for the unremarkable dead, now a volcanic hellscape of islands in a sea of fire after the Phlegethon overflowed.

Asphodel used to be the place for people who had lived and died without distinction — not good enough for Elysium, not bad enough for Tartarus. Then the Phlegethon overflowed. Now it's a magma-filled hellscape with Bone Hydras and Bloodless and the particular chaos of a place that has given up any pretense of being restful. Eurydice has her private glade in here somewhere, singing and cooking, making peace with an afterlife she didn't choose. The heat is real. The magma does damage. Standing in it long enough kills even Zagreus. The islands are small and the bone rafts don't give much room to maneuver. It is the biome that teaches you to watch your footing.

Appearance

A desolate collection of rocky islands separated by rivers of magma. Travel between islands is by small bone rafts. Fireballs occasionally spew from the magma surface. Smoke vents open as enemies die. The landscape is bare, scorched, and unrelenting — all the ordinary mediocrity of unremarkable lives burned into something actively hostile.
