Sisyphus cheated death. Twice. The first time he bribed Thanatos. The second time he convinced Persephone to let him return to the surface to arrange his own funeral, then simply didn't come back. The gods eventually got tired of this and handed him the boulder. He has had enormous amounts of time to reflect on these decisions. He has concluded that they were correct. He regrets the suffering he caused in life but not the impulse behind it — he found death absurd and said so. The boulder is an argument he lost. He calls Zagreus "Prince Z" and gives him useful things when they meet. He considers Bouldy a genuine friend and confidant. He gossips about the Underworld with the cheerful openness of someone who has nothing left to protect. When Zagreus eventually helps revise his sentence, Sisyphus chooses to stay in Tartarus anyway — mostly because of Bouldy.
