The greatest musician who ever lived, employed as court musician in the House of Hades — and unable to sing a note since losing Eurydice.
Orpheus charmed Hades himself with his music. That's how good he was. He walked into the Underworld while alive, played until the Lord of the Dead was moved to tears, and won a deal to retrieve his wife — conditional on not looking back. He looked back. Now he sits in the House as court musician and cannot sing. The music is still inside him. The loss is louder. Hades eventually had him sent to Tartarus for not performing his duties, which Zagreus finds unconscionable and works to undo. With patience and specific interventions — including a prank arranged by Dionysus — Orpheus slowly starts singing again. The song he composes is about Zagreus. It is the most beautiful thing in the House of Hades and it is also about grief, because Orpheus can only work with what he has.
